Her performance is even better after the reveal and you realize the type of character she’s really portraying. DD: Most of my adult life has been in very urban atmospheres where I have walked past stray, uncared-for, loose animals—which is one thing.
But there’s something about being smashed in the face with it in an urban environment. Their Uncle Doug tells Gensan their father, who subjected Gensan and Ruby to horrific abuse, died in prison, leaving nothing but an old shack to Gensan and Ruby.
In my imagination, it was always this journey to go back home to confront this monster that they have been living in fear of for years.

All Creatures Here Below is the type of film mainstream audiences won’t see. ( Log Out / So it’s really refreshing when you end up watching one that surprises you, All Creatures Here Below has some really great performances from Karen Gillan and David Dastmalchian both of them really do give a strong performance. There is a quality of slowness to them that’s an effect of abuse and non-education. DD: She is the product of non-education and severe abuse. I certainly didn’t see either one coming especially the reveal. Again, this is not an easy watch but worth watching.

Both David Dastmalchian and Karen Gillan were excellent at portraying such desperately forgotten people, their heinous crimes seemed somehow understandable (that's that empathy kicking in) and the dark route they metaphorically and literally drove down was landmarked with appropriately bleak reveals. After starring in Avengers: Endgame, this film marks the second 2019 film that Gillan is a part of that includes some major spoilers that shouldn’t be revealed.
