Battery charges quickly to max 5 bars, drains to 3 bars rather rapidly, then drain slows down and device can be left on for at least several hours when not plugged into charger. I have an engineering and science background (30+ years) and so I was prepared for the kinds of tradeoffs you will see with a sensor and its measurements. Make the most of your movies, games, or work with the right desktop monitor. Of course, these numbers will vary a lot depending on room sizes, proximity of kitchen to other rooms and oven type. I highly recommend this meter for detecting and monitoring many currently unknown sources of volatile organics and particulates in living areas where we spend a great deal more time these days. The Dylos small particle count can, in some cases but possibly not all, detect mold and did so for me.

Usually the PM2.5 reading is 1-2 near my kitchen, but simply turning on a toaster oven (convection) caused the PM2.5 level to rapidly jump up to 50-55.
Formaldehyde, particulate, etc, are about where I expected them to be for my home vs the cleaner air of the woods. Very importantly, it has a full structured calibration process you interact with and even allows you to configure a bias on individual sensors-- very impressive features not easily found in other products. Everyone should have VSON at home as the quality of air in our homes is extremely important!
It is, for all intents and purposes, a smoke alarm, but one that has Nest levels of quality and usability all over it.
Update- I wanted to add a few other important points to this review. Until the development of germ theory in the late Victorian period, it was believed that ‘bad air’ caused diseases that ravaged communities and led to all manner of gruesome illnesses. I bought this little meter because I recently moved into a new place and occasionally have allergies in only one of the rooms in our place.

It’s not much to look at (unless you are into fire alarm chic), but if you want to see how dangerous your radon levels are, you just wave your hand in front of it, at which point it’ll glow a reassuring green if you’re good, orange for warning, and red for dangerous levels of radon (which is above 100 becquerels per cubic metre of air). Well, this little gadget picked up some gas or fumes at our facility, was brought to the upper management’s attention and they are now conducting air quality and trace gas tests at the facility. Amazon has no shortage of consumer-focused monitors and obviously knowing which ones are useful/real and well executed is an adventure. As well as monitoring for radon, it also tests the general air quality for volatile compounds, CO2 levels, humidity, air pressure and temperature, making it a Jack-of-all-trades when it comes to indoor air quality monitors.
